Trevi Fountain, Rome

4.3
#3 of 45,135 in Things to do in Italy
Throw a coin over your left shoulder into Trevi Fountain, the legend claims, and you are sure to eventually return to the city. Undoubtedly one of the most photographed sites in the city, the fountain was designed by architect Nicola Salvi and built in 1762. Standing at 26 m (86 ft) high and 49 m (161 ft) wide, it is the largest Baroque fountain in the city. Fans of Italian cinema easily recognize this site, which has appeared in numerous notable films, including director Federico Fellini's famed "La Dolce Vita." • The fountain is more enjoyable evening with fewer tourists (groups, children...). Pleasant place to visit.

  • The fountain was beautiful and worth a visit. It is busy at all times, so you'll need to find a spot if you wish to take a photo. But a worthwhile visit  more »
  • One of the most famous places of Rome and right on because it is an apotheosis of beauty and water created by man like few others in the world. Obviously you should visit it at night when the tourist hordes have moved away and only sound of waterfalls because lit and becomes more charm and magic.

  • Stunning and worth fighting the crowds to see. The Trevi fountain is a masterful work of art and wonderfully maintained. It glistens in the sunlight and you could find a thousand different details on each carved figure or surface. At night, the dramatic lighting makes the statues seem to come alive as the light, color, and shadows dance. The fountain is surrounded by shops and street peddlers, and the atmosphere is always lively. Grab a gelato nearby and take some pics. Don’t forget to throw a coin in the fountain to ensure your return to Rome!
  • Absolutely stunning fountain. Definitely visit here when in Rome. It's a great place to chill out and watch what's happening in the square. It does get extremely packed so you will have to try and fight your way to front or go early in the morning or later at night to see it with the lights on. My first visit I didn't even get a chance to toss my coin in.
  • Rome's must-see. Beautifully placed magnificent fountain - huge, impressive, unexpected among narrow cobbled streets. If you go to Di Trevi metro station, prepare for 5-10 minutes walk - go down the main street, look for brown tourist signs. There are nice place to sit, eat, hang out around. Magnificent church on the left from the fountain.
  • Great tourist place to visit. Very romantic also. Great when the sun is shining for the perfect photo, too! Don't forget to make a wish as you throw your lucky coin into the fountain's water, lots of people do this and the water is full of coins! One of the largest fountains in the world, I think the second largest. Completely made out of Italian marble, so quite breathtaking views if you climb the steps behind the monument and take your pictures and or selfies from there. Would definitely recommend!
  • We visited trevi fountain in evening after finish our full day sightseeing rush. It was magical in first view as grand Roman architect beauty glittering in sparkling blue water of fountain. It was packed of tourist till late night. After full of sightseeing; it was moment of relaxation and beauty. Our kids enjoyed this place more than us. I think that's why people make there wish to revisit Rome at this place. In short unforgettable experience.
