Gesu Nuovo Church, Naples

4.8
Discover the hidden wonders of Gesu Nuovo Church, a 16th-century church. Its somewhat plain exterior belies the interior's grand architecture and art collection. Look for Francesco Solimena's masterpiece painting, "The Expulsion of Heliodorus from the Temple." For some local history, visit the small chapel dedicated to St. Joseph Moscati (1880–1927), a biochemistry teacher at the University of Naples and head physician of the Hospital of the Incurables. You can admire his statue and study the depiction of his medical activities on a triptych sculptured urn. Put Gesu Nuovo Church at the forefront of your travel plans using our Naples day trip tool .

  • A bit of chaos for many people but clean, well maintained and especially in an area that opens to beauty of Naples and in San Lorenzo. The tomb of Moscati worth the visit and a prayer!

  • artistically beautiful both the exterior and the Interior with remarkable paintings. Located in the beautiful square where stands the Spire of the Immaculate fully sculpted. On the same square also faces the monumental complex of Santa Chiara, do not miss the cloister, really impressive and rich in frescoes.

  • The front does not bode of the wonder that is offered to you after pushing the door. This church is huge and richly decorated. Superb. At the edge of the "medieval" Naples...

  • The somewhat austere facade of Gesu Nuovo belies the impressive and grand interior. The gilded ceilings representing biblical and saintly narratives exalting the name of Jesus soar above intricately inlaid marble floors. Constructed as a palace in 1470, it was converted to a cathedral in 1601. The architectural style is renaissance, while the fittings are baroque. Simply unforgettable.
  • One of the loveliest piazzas at Napoli. Open space in front of the church. The church outside is unique and there is no way to imagine how marvelous it looks from inside. One of the top churces (and there are a lot of them) in Napoli.
  • It is a holy place that balances baroque grandiosity and spiritual solemnity. The Church of Gesu Nuovo is the Neapolitan counterpart of the Church of the Gesu in Rome. It is run by Jesuits and home to the remains of San Giuseppe Moscati.
  • Go to here. Amazing.
  • Magnificent, don't let the outside fool you.
